Little Bitty Knitty

Random Wednesday:

I started Weight Watchers two weeks ago, and I've lost 4.8 pounds!

I have this big fancy event on Saturday, and I'm stressing about my hair.

I haven't knitted. It's stressful.

I appealed UCLA and I might hear in a week or two. That's stressful.

Overall...I am stressed.

Not much knitting going on, at all. I've been super busy, and now I'm sick, and I decided to appeal my rejection from UCLA so I had to get all these rec letters and such together...I'm burnt out. I've got rehearsals for this StupidPlayIDon'tWantToBeIn every day for hours, I have this big fancy stressful event next weekened, and I still have to pretend to care about school.

So tired.

Pattern: Amelia Earhart Aviator Cap
Yarn: 1 and a half skeins of Debbie Bliss Merino Aran
Needles: US8

I loved this pattern! It took me only...hmm, exactly a week. Started it last Tuesday, finished it yesterday.

(Momentary distraction: WHAT THE HELL? Mandisa got sent home? Get fucking Pickler OFF MY TV SCREEN!)

Anyway! Love the pattern. Super cute. Definitely taught me useful skills (short rows). Plan to make more in a variety of colors. This is the item of knitting I'm most proud of. My first completed hat! I think it's fantastic. No, I have no humility. I rock.

So, an update in Tay's Non Knitting World.

In the past week, I have been rejected from UC Berkeley, USC, and my first choice, Northwestern. Those get added to my previous rejection list of, well, one (UCLA). Oddly enough, unfortunately enough, those are my Top Four schools. Sooo...I'm screwed. Well, not really.

I applied to University of Washington on a whim. Knew nothing about the school, had no actual desire to go there. I got my acceptance in February, didn't really care. Never planned on going there. But now...it might be where I end up. The more I research it, the more people tell me "That's the perfect school for you!", the more I think that maybe, fate stepped in, some God or Higher Being said "This is where you need to be." So...I'm going to visit Seattle this weekend. I hope I feel some instant connection like I did with Northwestern. I just want to be happy.

(Other schools I was accepted to: UCSB, which is too close to home, UCIrvine, which is too much of a commuter school, SDSU, which is soo much like my high school which I hate, CSU Long Beach and Sonoma State, which are too easy of schools.)

SO! My plane project? I'm thinking I'll stop by the yarn store tomorrow, and knit the Liesel scarf in a deep blood red, or maybe a butter0-y yellow. My first lace! Ahhh. Frightening. I can do it though. 'Cause I knit that awesome hat.

And, you know, you need hats and scarves in Seattle. It rains there.

No real content in this post, but I was CRACKING up at "Grey's Anatomy" tonight! The knitting! Ah, the knitting!

Ahhh...Vegas. Home of the cultural wonders that are strip clubs, and shiny shiny buildings. I absolutely LOVE IT. I'm no longer a Vegas virgin.

So far we've seen "O" at the Bellagio and we ate at Sensi, and last night we ate in the Eiffel Tower Restaurant and saw "Rent"! AMAZING. I love that show.

Tonight we're on to "Avenue Q" and some steak house my dad wants to go to. Tomorrow night is Elton John!

Knitting updates, you say?

I finished the shiny happy colorful rainbow scarf, but have yet to attempt felting it. I knit two cute headbands, one being the band portion of Knitty's Coronet in the remaining wrist warmer yarn, the other a simple seed stitch band in the cashmerino superchunky. Both are very useful, pictures to come.

My vaction project was originally going to be the Edgar scarf in Artyarns supermerino, but I got distracted. I just reached the halfway point on an Amelia Earhart Aviator hat in Debbie Bliss rust colored merino aran. I'm looooving it. I have yet to make a mistake (knock on wood), which is a first for me. It's too awesome. And I now know how (those words were hard to type, let me tell you) to wrap short rows!

I'm going to go shower so we can go wander around the casino and visit the tigers at the Mirage. Pictures when I return to California!

So, my friend and I (the girl who first taught me how to knit, a dear, dear girl) bought yarn yesterday then sat and drank tea for a few hours. Our own little mini Stitch 'N Bitch (and believe me, there was a LOT of bitching). It was tons of fun. I needed a none-thinking project for our gossip session, so I bought some more of the SWTC Karaoke and began knitting a simple, garter stitch scarf.

So springy! So bright! So happy! I think I'll felt it when I'm done...very cute. That's what I finished in about two hours of drinking and talking, because as soon as I got home I got distracted. Also at the yarn store, I bought two balls of Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran, on sale. And I was pondering what to do with them. Hat? Scarf? Panta?

And then it hit me.

(Can you tell I was feeling artistic with my pictures?)

Yes. Ohhhh yes. Gorgeous. I'm so proud of myself. The color is beautiful (I seem to have a pink fetish). And they're incredibly useful. I'm currently wearing them 'cause my hands are just a little cold.

I finished the first one last night around 10. I started it around 3, maybe, with about an hour taken out to go pick up my boyfriend. I seamed and immediately began the next one, which I finished about a fourth of before bed. I finished it this morning. Quickest knit of my life.

Pattern: Irish Hiking Wristwarmers
Yarn: Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran in Old Rose, Color 300602 (just a bit more than 1 skein.)

A week with no posts? I'm a slacker.

I'm going absolutely insane waiting for my last three college letters to come in. They just happen to be my top three schools. Ahhhh I'm going nuts.

I'm going to Vegas next week! It'll be my first time. I'm see Rent, Avenue Q, Elton John, and Cirque de Soleil. Yay!

Okay...knitting update.

I knitted about five inches of just a ribbed border-stockinette body hat, but then unraveled the whole thing because somehow I started knitting backwards.

I've made no progress on the Odessa, because I can't seem to find the time or motivation to start the decreases and use the dpns. Here's a progress photo (note that I'm not showing you the evil hole):

Last night, I knitted a cell phone case for my gorgeous, lovely, sexy, girly PINK RAZR.
I used my birthday money.

Here's the case:

Razr Case
Yarn: Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Superchunky in Ivory
Needles: US9 (Metal. My only pair of metal needles. I kind of hate them, but they worked okay for this little project.)
Pattern: My own, off the top of my head. I cast on 11 stitches, knit two rows, worked in stockinette stitch for my desired lenth, knit two rows, bound off. Sewed up the sides and VOILA!

So I contacted the nice woman who sold me my Clapotis yarn on eBay because it STILL hasn't arrived. Turns out somehow PayPal gave her the wrong address (where I used to live). Damn! I've used PayPal tons of times and they've never given out that address. Odd. Well, it should be on its way soon, and then I shall begin.
